Candace Sams Favorite Christmas Eve Memory
When my cousins and I were very young we’d frequently spend Christmas Eve over my grandparents’ house. My grandfather couldn’t afford to give so many grandchildren gifts, though he wanted to. His way of sharing something he loved from his childhood (Christmas hard candy) became a very precious memory for us. He bought a huge, two-pound candy cane then took a hammer and broke into it pieces. He’d give each grandchild a piece along with a special wish for the upcoming year.
