Why We Promote on Social Media

Here at Promo Warriors, we use a variety of promotional methods for our clients. If we are creating content for a client, we share those pieces on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, and on Pinterest if it makes sense. We also submit to a variety of other networks as makes sense for that particular topic.

The Statistics of Social Media Promotion

81% of people in the United States are now on social media, up from 24% just nine years ago. Just about anyone you speak with, from the next door neighbor, to your grandmother, is on social media these days. Of course, which social media they are on can vary by age group and interest.


Facebook still rules as the king of social media, even though the younger crowd ┬áhas left for places like Instagram and Snapchat. They currently have about 18% of the market share. If you don’t have a presence on Facebook, you need to reconsider that decision.

Even though Facebook will limit how many people see your posts, you can increase your odds by posting at specific times of the day and even days of the week. In addition, you can boost posts for even more exposure to a specific group of people.

One thing we do when trying to promote a client is to target those who see a post very specifically. Because Facebook allows this in their advertising algorithms, we can even target for a specific location for small brick and mortar type businesses.


It is debatable how effective Twitter is for promotions. One thing we’ve noticed in recent months is that everyone seems to be chattering, but no one is listening. One thing we’ve started to do in our posts is to use hashtags. These are just a way of jumping into a conversation.

If you haven’t studied the available hashtags, a good place to start is with the trending ones on the left of your home page feed. These are topics currently trending. Can you relate your business topic to it somehow? Of course, don’t just self-promote. Nobody likes that.


If you want to connect with other, like-minded business owners and professionals, LinkedIn is a great place to do so. I often share business type articles on LinkedIn and get a fairly good response. Because your connections are so targeted to a circle of acquaintances, this is pretty effective to get the word out.


Want to promote to women? Pinterest is a good choice. About 85% of their users are females. However, the males signing up for Pinterest are increasing. For now, though, this is a good place to promote to females. For example, I share recipes and home tips from my Crabby Housewife blog on Pinterest as well as info on my novels.
